Carowinds for Families: Thrills on the State Line

The state line runs right through the park — kids can ride a coaster in two states at once. Carowinds, Charlotte’s 400-acre theme park since 1973, pairs some of America’s most celebrated roller coasters (Fury 325, the world’s tallest giga coaster, is the headliner) with family lands that keep the little ones in the action.

Camp Snoopy wraps Peanuts charm around pint-sized rides and character hugs; Carolina Harbor water park — included with admission — answers summer with wave pools, slides and a lazy river; and seasonal events (Scarowinds for the brave in fall, WinterFest’s lights and ice rink) stretch the calendar nearly year-round.

For Charlotte families, Carowinds is a rite of passage measured in height charts — first the kiddie rides, then Fury. Both Carolinas claim it; Charlotte keeps it.
