Oceans of Empathy Opens at Boston Children’s Museum with Sea Creatures and Beach-Debris Sculpture

Boston Children’s Museum has a new reason to visit its Gallery: Oceans of Empathy, on view from October 17, 2026 through April 25, 2027, pairing art and ocean wonder for young visitors and their grown-ups.

The exhibition features photographs of sea creatures by Brian Skerry alongside sculptures made from local beach debris by Rebecca McGee Tuck. Together, the images and the transformed materials invite children to look closely at the animals that live in the ocean, and at what washes up on our shores.

The show is designed to help visitors develop and practice empathy skills, deepening awareness of the ocean and the animals within it through artwork. A special area of the gallery also lets families explore the connection between our sense of smell and memory, adding a sensory layer to the experience.

Oceans of Empathy fits the museum’s hands-on spirit: it is not just about looking at pictures, but about caring, imagining and understanding. The exhibition runs through April 25, 2027, giving Boston families plenty of time to plan a visit this fall and winter.
