A new landmark has arrived in the heart of Boston! The Rose Kennedy Greenway has unveiled the 2026 Dewey Square Mural, The Midnight Ride, by Rixy — a Roxbury-born artist whose bold, visionary murals energize walls across Boston and beyond.
Selected by a panel of ten Boston arts and cultural leaders through the Greenway’s first-ever Open Call, held in partnership with Embrace and Everyone 250, the mural was created to celebrate and reflect upon the nation’s 250th anniversary. With her fresh and futuristic style, Rixy invites viewers to look back on 250 years of Boston history while collectively envisioning what comes next.
Drawing on her Caribbean diasporic roots, Rixy (b. 1995) fills the mural with surrealism, social connection, and collective imagination — complex, richly speculative worlds layered with mythical femme characters. It’s a joyful celebration of transformation and possibility, right in the middle of one of the most visited attractions in Massachusetts.
The mural is on view from June 27, 2026 through Summer 2027 and is free to visit anytime. Grab a coffee, take a stroll through the Greenway, and don’t forget your camera — this is one of those pieces that looks even better in person. A Spanish translation and an exhibition activity guide are available on the Greenway’s website.
