San Francisco’s holiday season gets its most theatrical doorway on Saturday, November 21, when The Great Dickens Christmas Fair returns to the historic Cow Palace for five weekends of Victorian London, through Sunday, December 20, 2026, including the Friday after Thanksgiving. A treasured Bay Area tradition since 1970, the Fair turns more than 140,000 square feet of exhibition halls into a lamplit Christmas Eve in Charles Dickens’ London — and Happy City News readers who love immersive history will feel right at home.
Hundreds of costumed players fill the streets, music halls, pubs, dance floors and festive shops, and visitors can bump into Ebenezer Scrooge, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim or Mr. Dickens himself. You can learn a new dance at Fezziwig’s Warehouse, join the sing-alongs at Mad Sal’s Dockside Alehouse, ride the miniature live steam train that welcomes guests at the Victoria Station lobby, and browse one-of-a-kind gifts, Victorian reproductions, fine art and jewelry in the shops of London.
Families get Punch and Judy puppet shows, Father Christmas, the Adventure Carousel and hands-on holiday crafts for children, plus festive fare from fish and chips to French onion soup and tempting desserts. Victorian costumes are encouraged but never required — even a hat or bonnet helps you step back in time. The Fair runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day at the Cow Palace Exhibition Halls, 2600 Geneva Avenue, on the border of San Francisco and Daly City. Tickets for the 2026 season are on sale now and are available online only through the Fair’s official website; there is no on-site box office, so book before you go and arrive ready to wander.
