Just in time for the spookiest month of the year, Springs Preserve invites Las Vegas families to look at spiders in a whole new light. Its weekend program “Springs Safari: Spiders, Scary?” sets out to prove that these eight-legged neighbors are far more fascinating than frightening — and a whole lot more helpful than most of us realize.
The adventure takes place on Saturdays and Sundays in October at 11 a.m. in the DLC Sustainability Gallery Classroom. Young explorers creep past the most common spider myths, discover the important jobs spiders do in the desert ecosystem, and enjoy up-close — but perfectly safe — encounters designed to turn nervous giggles into genuine curiosity.
The program is part of the Springs Safari series, which leads children on guided discoveries of different areas of the Preserve and the natural world around them. All ages are welcome, and the experience is especially recommended for kids ages 5 to 12, making it an easy, happy outing for the whole family — grandparents included.
Best of all, joining the safari is free for Springs Preserve members or included with paid general admission, while space and supplies last. No reservations are needed, but seats fill quickly, so arriving a little early is the smart move. Springs Preserve is at 333 S. Valley View Blvd. — bring your bravest young naturalists and let the spiders win them over.
