Kids Dream Big and Build It at Boston Children’s Museum

Boston families have a joyful new reason to visit Fort Point Channel: Dream it! Build it!, the new permanent hands-on exhibition at Boston Children’s Museum, invites children and the adults in their lives to dream up, design and build things that make our world a better place.

Everything in the exhibition is hands-on and minds-on. In The Big Build, young builders can climb scaffolding, move materials and try out a building trade as they construct a large-scale structure together. In Dream City, they can imagine, sketch and add their own ideas to a collaborative digital city that keeps growing with every visit.

The Design Studio lets children play with light, color and materials to create spaces for themselves and for others, while Green Spaces explores sustainable design and shows how nature can be woven into our communities. A Portraits of Workers section introduces real people who shape the built environment, highlighting diverse pathways into construction, architecture and engineering.

The museum says the experience was created to nurture creativity, resilience and collaboration, and to engage all children — especially girls and children of color, who are underrepresented in STEAM careers — in science, technology, engineering, art and math through joyful play. It is a happy, hopeful invitation for Boston’s youngest designers to imagine the future and start building it, one idea at a time.
