Intersections: Music and Grief in Tandem at the Crow Museum of Asian Art in Dallas

The Crow Museum of Asian Art of The University of Texas at Dallas has opened Intersections: Music and Grief in Tandem, a new exhibition in its Dallas Arts District galleries at 2010 Flora Street. On view from October 24, 2026 through May 13, 2027, the show brings together paintings, photographs, ceramics and other works with one shared thread: the way music helps people carry grief, memory and love.

The exhibition draws largely on a promised gift of contemporary works from Dallas collectors Deanna and Joshua Dickinson, formally announced by the museum in September 2026. Organized around ‘music in tandem’ — melodies, rhythms and instruments that accompany moments of loss — the show invites visitors to slow down and listen as much as look. Historical pieces from the Crow’s own collection answer the contemporary works across the galleries, so a centuries-old object and a brand-new painting can end up in the same quiet conversation.

Among the contemporary artists represented are Whitfield Lovell, known for his meditative charcoal portraits of African American life, and Leilah Babirye, whose expressive sculptures honor community and chosen family. Their works sit alongside additional voices from the Dickinson collection, a promised gift that is already reshaping what the Crow can show. For Dallas art lovers, it is a rare chance to preview a major private collection as it begins its public life in a museum.

Admission to the Crow Museum of Asian Art is always free, and the museum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Intersections: Music and Grief in Tandem offers a gentle, reflective counterpoint to the bustle of the Arts District — proof that an exhibition can be both beautiful and quietly healing.
