Baltimore Symphony Orchestra: A Century of Music at the Meyerhoff

For more than a century, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra has been the sound of a city that takes music seriously. Founded in 1916 — the first American orchestra created by a municipality — the BSO made its permanent home in 1982 at the Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, a sweeping modern landmark in Midtown designed for the music it holds.

Under Music Director Jonathon Heyward, who took the podium in 2023 as one of the most exciting young conductors in America, the orchestra pairs the great symphonic repertoire with premieres, film concerts, pops programs and its beloved BSO Fusion series, which remixes classical masterworks with other genres. The orchestra also performs regularly at the Music Center at Strathmore in North Bethesda, its second home.

First visit? Arrive early, wander the Meyerhoff’s terraces, and let the hall’s warm acoustic do the rest.

The Meyerhoff is at 1212 Cathedral Street. Season calendar at bsomusic.org.
