The SNF Parkway and Maryland Film Festival: Cinema’s Baltimore Cathedral

The marquee on North Avenue guards Baltimore’s film soul. The historic Parkway Theatre, opened in 1915 and restored to glory in 2017 as the SNF Parkway, anchors the Station North arts district as a year-round home for independent, documentary and classic cinema.

Its signature event is the Maryland Film Festival, founded in 1999, which takes over the Parkway and neighboring screens each spring with premieres, visiting filmmakers and the kind of discoveries that keep Baltimore on the festival map. The Parkway also hosts the city’s beloved repertory screenings, filmmaker talks and community cinema programs in one of the most beautiful movie rooms in America.

Date-night math is simple: dinner on Charles Street, a film at the Parkway, the district buzzing around you.

The SNF Parkway is at 5 West North Avenue. Programs at mdfilmfest.com.
