Everyman Theatre: Baltimore’s Resident Company with a Big Heart

Everyman Theatre built its reputation the Baltimore way: a resident company of actors audiences know by name, performing plays chosen for heart as much as craft. Founded in 1990 by Artistic Director Vincent M. Lancisi, Everyman found its permanent home in 2013 in a beautifully reborn 1910 vaudeville-era building on Fayette Street, in the heart of the Bromo arts district.

The resident-company model — rare in American theatre — means the face you loved as a Shakespearean king last season may pour your coffee as a Chekhov uncle this one, and the familiarity breeds a special kind of electricity. Its seasons balance classics, comedies and contemporary hits, with pay-what-you-can performances keeping the doors wide open.

It is, quite simply, Baltimore’s hometown theatre company.

Everyman Theatre is at 315 West Fayette Street. Season at everymantheatre.org.
