Washington, D.C. families have a prehistoric adventure waiting downtown. Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice is now open at the National Children’s Museum, running from September 26, 2026, through January 10, 2027, in the museum’s Visiting Exhibit Hall.
The exhibit invites young explorers ages 3 to 10 to travel back to the Cretaceous period, when mighty dinosaurs roamed the Earth. Children can explore prehistoric habitats, come face to face with large, climbable dinosaurs, and dive into hands-on activities designed to spark scientific thinking and imagination.
Everything here is built for whole-body learning. Little paleontologists can move, climb, pretend, and play their way through the exhibit, building motor skills and confidence while they wonder about the creatures that once shared the planet with ancient plants, reptiles, and small mammals.
The Visiting Exhibit Hall sits on the Exhibit Level, one floor down from the main entrance, next to the Tinkering Corner. The museum, at 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, sparks curiosity in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math for children under 12, making this dinosaur stop a perfect fit for a happy family day in the capital.
Dinosaurs: Land of Fire and Ice was created by the Minnesota Children’s Museum, with support from the David B. Jones Foundation. Happy City News recommends booking the visit soon ā these friendly giants head back to the past on January 10!
