One of Washington, DC’s most joyful traditions is back: the 24th Annual Turkish Festival takes over Pennsylvania Avenue on Sunday, October 18, from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and admission is completely free.
This year’s theme, “A Day in Türkiye: Taste, Dance, Discover,” says it all. The stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue NW between 3rd and 6th Streets fills with the flavors, rhythms and colors of Türkiye, just steps from the U.S. Capitol. Named Best Festival and Best Cultural Festival by Washington City Paper readers, the celebration is organized by the American Turkish Association of Washington DC.
Come hungry: vendors serve savory kebabs, gözleme, baklava, Turkish delight and more. Slow down at the traditional Turkish coffeehouse for tea, coffee and a fortune reading, then browse the bustling bazaar for hand-crafted jewelry, ceramics, copperware, textiles and art straight from Türkiye.
Live music and folk dance performances keep the energy high all day, while cultural exhibits and a kids’ tent with games and crafts make it a perfect family outing. Whether you are a foodie, a first-timer or a longtime fan, this is a day to taste, dance and discover.
