Springtime in Washington, D.C. just got its dates! The National Cherry Blossom Festival has announced its 2027 edition, running March 20 through April 11, 2027 — four full weeks of pink-petaled celebration that the organizers bill as the city’s longest-running festival. Millions of visitors are expected to flock to the Tidal Basin and beyond for one of America’s most beloved spring traditions.
The season kicks off with the elegant Pink Tie Party on March 12, followed by the Opening Ceremony on March 20, the same day BloomFest opens at the Tidal Basin. The calendar is packed with family-friendly favorites: the Blossom Kite Festival and Sakura Taiko Fest on March 27, Petalpalooza at Navy Yard on April 3, the Oxon Run Pinknic & Kite Fly on April 4, the 65th Sakura Matsuri – Japanese Street Festival on April 10–11, and the grand National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 10.
The festival honors the 1912 gift of cherry trees from Japan to the United States and the enduring friendship between the two nations — a story told in music, dance, food and art across four joyful weeks. Run by a nonprofit organization, the festival offers free events, family visitor tips and easy transportation options, from bikes and Metro to water taxis.
Whether you watch the Parade downtown, fly a kite by the monuments or picnic under a canopy of blossoms, spring 2027 in the nation’s capital promises to be unforgettable. Happy City News will keep you posted as the full schedule unfolds.
