The best seat in Washington this October might be the free one. The Kennedy Center’s REACH campus is rolling out a week of completely free performances, film screenings, and hands-on art — proof that world-class culture in D.C. doesn’t need a ticket price.
The celebration kicks off today, Saturday, October 10: the Brass Band of Northern Virginia brings the full power of a brass quintet to the River Pavilion, and families can catch a free big-screen showing of Scooby-Doo in the Justice Forum — perfect for little mystery solvers.
The free fun continues all week. On Thursday, October 15, the Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra steps out of the pit for a Millennium Stage performance of Beethoven, Fauré, and Mendelssohn. Friday, October 16 brings trombonist Marcel Penzes and his joyful New Orleans jazz, while Saturday, October 17 doubles up: soul artist Tre. Charles in the River Pavilion and a free screening of Knives Out in the Justice Forum.
And every weekend, the Moonshot Studio at the REACH opens its doors from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for drop-in, hands-on art-making for everyone ages 5 and up. As the nation’s living memorial to President Kennedy, the Kennedy Center keeps its promise: great art, open to all.
