Tampa’s century-old pirate invasion is on the calendar: the Gasparilla Pirate Fest takes over the city Saturday, January 30, 2027, when the fully rigged Jose Gasparilla sails into the harbor at 11:30 a.m. with 750 swashbuckling pirates aboard, cannons booming, to demand the key to the city.
After the invasion (11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m.), the Parade of Pirates storms down Bayshore Boulevard from 2 to 6 p.m. — roughly 140 floats, bands and krewes showering beads on a crowd that routinely tops 300,000. The tradition, run by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla since 1904, is Tampa’s signature spectacle and Florida’s answer to Mardi Gras.
Come early for Bayshore spots, ride the streetcar in, and bring a bag for beads.
The pirates are coming, Tampa. Resistance is adorable — and futile.
