The TECO Historic Streetcar: Tampa’s Free Ride Through History

The best transit deal in Florida wears a 1920s smile: the TECO Line Streetcar System runs replica Birney streetcars between downtown Tampa, Channelside and Ybor City — and rides are completely free.

The 2.7-mile line revives the streetcars that once webbed Tampa, when cigar workers rode them between the factories of Ybor and the docks. Today’s varnished-wood cars — each named for Tampa heritage — glide past the Riverwalk, the Florida Aquarium’s neighborhood and into the heart of Seventh Avenue’s Latin Quarter.

Cars run every 12–15 minutes most of the day, air-conditioned inside, pure nostalgia outside.

Hop on downtown, hop off for a café con leche in Ybor. Tampa history, free of charge, on rails.
