Tampa’s opera company performs where the river bends. Opera Tampa, the Straz Center’s resident opera company, stages the great repertoire — Verdi, Puccini and Mozart anchor its seasons — in the intimacy of Ferguson Hall and the grandeur of Morsani Hall, with the Florida Orchestra in the pit.
The company’s formula is pure Tampa: lavish traditional productions, international voices, English supertitles, and pre-show talks that turn first-timers into fans by the second aria. Its education programs carry opera into Bay area schools, and its chorus of local singers gives productions a hometown heartbeat.
Between Broadway tours and ballet seasons, opera nights are the Straz at its most elegant — gowns, golden voices and the Riverwalk glowing outside at intermission.
Grand opera, warm city. Opera Tampa keeps proving they belong together.
