MoPOP Opens ‘Puget Sound Stories: Seattle Music + Beyond’ on November 21

Seattle will soon be able to hear its own story in a new way. On November 21, 2026, the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) at Seattle Center opens Puget Sound Stories: Seattle Music + Beyond, a joyful tribute to the musical innovation of Washington state. The exhibition is included with general admission.

Through immersive storytelling, oral histories and interactive experiences, the show celebrates the interconnected stories of musicians, venues and cultural movements that shaped the region’s sound. It looks well beyond Seattle’s famous grunge chapter, connecting legendary artists such as Nirvana, Sir Mix-A-Lot, QueensrĆæche and Pat Suzuki with emerging voices and untold stories.

Highlights drawn from MoPOP’s permanent collection include a Roland Rhythm Composer TR-808 used by Sir Mix-A-Lot in the 1980s and the studded leather vest worn by QueensrĆæche drummer Scott Rockenfield, with the band’s Tri-RĆæche insignia on the back. Together, objects like these reveal a scene defined by community, creativity and constant reinvention.

For longtime fans, it is a chance to rediscover familiar favorites from a fresh angle. For younger visitors and newcomers, it is a welcoming introduction to the people and places that helped create the sound of Puget Sound — and to the voices shaping what comes next.
