The Seattle Art Museum just turned its fourth floor into the happiest creative corner in downtown Seattle. The Studio at SAM opened on October 1, and it is an open studio where something new is always happening: visitors can watch local artists at work, ask them questions, and create art right alongside them.
The heart of the Studio is its print shop, where featured local print artists change every month. October belongs to Zapotec artist Fulgencio Lazo, who also created this year’s intricate tapete installation celebrating Día de los Muertos. Stop by during weekly print shop hours to see the printmaking process up close and run your own print to take home. Self-guided printmaking is always available too: stamp, ink and letterpress tools are waiting, and visitor creations join the collective Community Print Wall.
The lounge buzzes with weekly programming — music, artist talks, family activities and open-mic poetry nights. Second Thursdays of the month are Member Nights with a free drink and the Studio all to themselves. All activities are drop-in and first-come, first-served, and everything is included with museum admission. With new artists, new prints and new artwork appearing throughout the season, every visit offers something to discover.
The Studio at SAM runs October 1, 2026 through January 10, 2027 — a whole season of creativity, community and good vibes.
