“Azzedine Alaïa: Sculpting Fashion” Opens at the Legion of Honor This November

San Francisco is about to host a fashion moment for the history books. Azzedine Alaïa: Sculpting Fashion, the first major United States retrospective dedicated to the legendary couturier, opens November 21, 2026 at the Legion of Honor, where it will be on view through April 11, 2027.

The Tunisian-born, Paris-based designer (1935–2017) revolutionized fashion with sculptural silhouettes that celebrated the human form, dressing everyone from Grace Jones to Michelle Obama. For the first time in the U.S., the exhibition brings together a comprehensive study of his creative process alongside his historical collections — a sweeping look at the genius behind some of the most unforgettable dresses of the last fifty years.

Nearly a decade after his passing, Alaïa’s influence has never felt more alive. A must-see for fashion lovers, art devotees and anyone who believes clothing can be art.
