San Francisco’s de Young Museum is celebrating one of Japan’s most graceful art forms this season. The Art of the Flower: Mastering Ikebana, the Traditional Japanese Art of Flower Arranging is on view in Gallery 30 from October 3, 2026 through March 8, 2027, inviting visitors to slow down and look at flowers in an entirely new way.
Ikebana, Japan’s centuries-old art of flower arranging, treats every stem, branch, and bloom as part of a living sculpture shaped by line, balance, and empty space. At the de Young ā the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco’s landmark museum in Golden Gate Park ā the exhibition brings that meditative tradition into the gallery, pairing elegant arrangements with the museum’s celebrated collections.
The de Young is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9:30 am to 5:15 pm, and general admission is always free for museum members, children 17 and under, and San Francisco residents on Saturdays. Bank of America cardholders also receive free general admission on the first full weekend of each month, making this serene, seasonal show an easy addition to a Golden Gate Park day.
