San Francisco families, get ready to hop into animation. The Walt Disney Family Museum, the nonprofit museum in the Presidio, is inviting young creators ages 7 to 17 to its Studio Series workshop Animate a Frog, with a virtual youth session on Saturday, November 7 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and an in-person youth session on Saturday, November 14 at the same time.
The workshop starts with a joyful look at how amphibian friends have been brought to life on the big screen, from early cartoons to beloved modern characters. Then participants move to the animation light tables and make their very own slippery creatures come to life, learning how a sequence of drawings turns into movement, expression and personality.
It is a perfect first taste of animation for curious kids and teens: hands-on, welcoming and rooted in Walt Disney’s own legacy of storytelling and innovation. Families can make a full day of it in the Presidio, combining the workshop with a visit to the museum galleries at 104 Montgomery Street, open Thursday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Check the museum’s workshops page for tickets and availability, as sessions for young animators tend to fill quickly.
