Shakespeare’s most beloved tragedy is getting a fresh, youthful heartbeat in San Diego! The Old Globe has announced Romeo and Juliet as its final Shakespeare production of the year, performed by a talented cast of 14 students from The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre Program. This is the next generation of artists-in-training taking on one of the greatest plays ever written — right in the heart of Balboa Park.
Directed by Kat Yen, the limited engagement plays ten performances only, from October 31 through November 8, 2026, at the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Globe’s beautiful Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. The schedule makes it easy to fit into your plans: Saturday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 and 7 p.m.; Tuesday through Friday evenings at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 7 at 2 and 8 p.m.; and a closing matinee on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m.
What makes this production special is its spirit: a timeless story of love, family, and friendship, brought to life by young artists discovering the play alongside their audiences. “There’s something especially meaningful about this timeless story being brought to life by a new generation of artists-in-training,” said Program Director Jesse Perez. And the prices are just as welcoming: regular tickets are $15, while students, Globe subscribers, donors, and groups of 15 or more pay only $10. Tickets are available at TheOldGlobe.org or by calling (619) 234-5623.
Happy City News loves this: world-class theatre, affordable tickets, and San Diego’s brightest rising stars — a perfect fall evening in Balboa Park awaits.
