Cecil Beaton’s Fashionable World Shines at Balboa Park Through January 2027

Glamour takes center stage at Balboa Park: “Cecil Beaton’s Fashionable World” is on view at the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art (MOPA@SDMA) through January 10, 2027.

It is the first exhibition devoted to the fashion and portrait photography of Cecil Beaton (1904–1980), the British artist who elevated fashion photography into an art form. A photographer, Oscar-winning costume designer, illustrator, and writer, Beaton was one of the great creative forces of the twentieth century.

Visitors will come face to face with portraits of the most iconic figures of the last century: Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, Truman Capote, Francis Bacon, and Salvador Dalí, among others.

The exhibition is organized by The National Portrait Gallery in London and is on view in the Nash and Schwartz Galleries at Casa de Balboa, 1649 El Prado in Balboa Park. Hours are Thursday through Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

A perfect plan for art lovers and photography fans: a stroll through Balboa Park followed by a gallery visit full of style and elegance. Happy City News celebrates the culture that makes San Diego shine.
