Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center: Latino Arts at Center Stage on San Antonio’s Westside

On Guadalupe Street, in the heart of San Antonio’s Westside, the Guadalupe Cultural Arts Center has spent more than four decades putting Latino and Chicano arts at center stage. Anchored by the historic Guadalupe Theater, the center is one of the nation’s longest-running homes for Latino performance, visual art, film, dance, music and literature.

The theater itself is a treasure: a beloved neighborhood landmark where generations have gathered for concerts, plays, dance performances and community celebrations. Around it, galleries showcase Latino artists, classes introduce young people to their heritage through art, and festivals fill the street with music and color.

What makes the Guadalupe special is its mission in action. This is not art about a community presented from outside – it is art by the community, for everyone. Emerging artists share the calendar with established names, and traditions like mariachi, ballet folklorico and Chicano theater are taught, performed and proudly passed on.

For visitors, an evening or afternoon at the Guadalupe is one of the most authentic cultural experiences in San Antonio – joyful, welcoming and rooted in the Westside’s living heritage. Check its calendar and go see the city’s Latino heart on stage.
