Muertos Fest Brings Three Free Days of Altars, Music and Color to Hemisfair

San Antonio’s premier Día de los Muertos celebration returns to Hemisfair: Muertos Fest, the city’s longest-running Day of the Dead festival, takes over the park from Friday, October 23, through Sunday, October 25 – and it is completely free.

The celebration begins Friday evening with a special opening night of altar viewing, including sensory-friendly hours from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., so families who prefer a calmer atmosphere can enjoy the ofrendas first. The festival then runs Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Across the weekend, Hemisfair fills with vibrant community altars, live music, festive performances, art and the joyful traditions that honor loved ones who have passed. It is a colorful, family-friendly gathering in the heart of downtown, at 434 S. Alamo St.

Muertos Fest is one of the signature moments of San Antonio’s famous Día de los Muertos season, the largest in the nation. Arrive early, wear comfortable shoes and take your time among the altars – every one tells a story.

Happy City News San Antonio will keep sharing the happiest celebrations across the city.
