The Briscoe Western Art Museum is putting revolutionary women in the spotlight. Opening October 16, 2026, the new exhibition Kathy Sosa: Revolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico brings together more than 30 works — paintings, mixed media and sculpture — by San Antonio artist Kathy Sosa, honoring the soldaderas, saints and subversives who helped shape Texas and Mexico.
The exhibition marks the grand reopening of the museum’s renovated Women of the West Gallery, which closed during the Briscoe’s ongoing renovation. It is presented as a companion to the landmark exhibition Tejano Legacy: Another American Origin Story, making this a double reason to visit the River Walk museum this fall.
Sosa is a self-taught San Antonio artist whose work explores mestizaje and borderlands identity. She co-edited and illustrated the book Revolutionary Women of Texas and Mexico: Portraits of Soldaderas, Saints, and Subversives, which inspired the exhibition, and her work has been shown with the Smithsonian Latino Center in Washington, D.C.
The exhibition will be on view through June 13, 2027, at the Briscoe Western Art Museum, 210 W Market St. Tickets are available at briscoemuseum.org.
