San Antonio is getting ready to light up the night in honor of Día de los Muertos! Tickets are now on sale for the eighth annual Day of the Dead River Parade, returning to the San Antonio River Walk on Friday, October 23.
Illuminated barges will glide along the river carrying vibrant artistry, music and performers that bring the story and spirit of Día de los Muertos to life. As one of the city’s signature Day of the Dead events, the parade has become a beloved tradition that draws residents and visitors alike to the heart of downtown San Antonio.
The river parade is part of a Día de los Muertos event series created through a collaboration between Visit San Antonio, GO RIO and Day of the Dead San Antonio at La Villita. Now in its third year, the joint effort celebrates the cultural traditions that define San Antonio while creating unforgettable experiences for everyone.
The celebration continues across the city: Culinary Spirits (October 2 – November 2) brings the holiday to River Walk restaurants with specially created dishes and cocktails; the Tradition Trail transforms the downtown River Walk with altars, colorful calaveras and alebrijes; and GO RIO’s Rio de la Vida offers one-hour cruises spotting vibrant alebrijes along the river.
At Pearl, the Calaverita Run 5K & Family Walk takes place Saturday, October 24, inviting all ages to honor loved ones through movement and community. Meanwhile, festivities at La Villita run October 9 through November 2, including Chef Johnny Hernandez’s free three-day festival at Maverick Plaza, October 23–25, with live music, traditional food, family activities and a large ofrenda.
San Antonio proudly hosts the largest Day of the Dead celebrations in the United States — a joyful, colorful tribute that keeps tradition alive for new generations. Organizers encourage everyone to purchase parade tickets early!
