Rising 750 feet above downtown, the Tower of the Americas has been San Antonio’s skyline icon since the 1968 World’s Fair. Built for HemisFair ’68, this slender concrete tower remains the tallest observation tower in Texas — and the views from the top are simply unforgettable.
The observation deck offers a 360-degree panorama: downtown’s towers, the winding River Walk, the missions stretching south, and on clear days the rolling Texas Hill Country. The tower also hosts a revolving restaurant, a 4D theater ride, and exhibits about the fair that put San Antonio on the world map.
It’s a must for first-time visitors, families, and sunset chasers — kids love spotting landmarks from above. Tip: time your visit for golden hour and watch the city light up below you; the surrounding Hemisfair Park is a lovely place for a picnic before or after.
