ZooLights Returns to the Oregon Zoo November 20: Portland’s Brightest Family Holiday Tradition

Portland’s most beloved holiday tradition is back. ZooLights, presented by U.S. Bank, returns to the Oregon Zoo from Friday, November 20, 2026 through Sunday, January 3, 2027, transforming the zoo into a glowing winter wonderland for families and friends.

Every year, ZooLights dazzles visitors of all ages with wildlife-inspired light displays and plenty of seasonal fun. It is the ideal place to gather the family, snap photos and make lasting holiday memories — or plan the perfect holiday date night with that special someone.

What to expect this season

  • Zoo train ride — hop aboard and see dozens of life-size animal lanterns glowing along the route.
  • Tunnels of light — walk through vibrant tunnels of glittering lights in a festive, glowing atmosphere.
  • Sweet and savory treats — enjoy elephant ears, hot chocolate, popcorn and s’mores, plus beer, wine and non-alcoholic options for the grown-ups.
  • Flexible tickets — ZooLights Any Night tickets can be purchased in advance and used any night from November 20 to December 31, 2026, making them an ideal holiday gift.

Special nights

  • BrewLights (Nov 13–14) — a 21+ craft beverage celebration among the lights.
  • Member Preview Night (Nov 15) — an exclusive first look for zoo members.
  • Sensory Friendly Night (Nov 16) — a calmer, more comfortable experience.
  • 21+ Only Nights (Jan 1–2) — an adults-only finale to the season.

Plan your visit

  • When: nightly at 4:30 p.m., November 20, 2026 – January 3, 2027. Closed Nov 17–19 and 24–26, and December 25.
  • Where: Oregon Zoo, 4001 SW Canyon Road, Portland (in Washington Park).
  • Tickets: adult $13–$35; youth $13–$30, depending on the night. Zoo members receive 20% off regularly priced tickets.

Getting there is easy: TriMet’s MAX Blue and Red lines serve the Washington Park station right at the zoo, and trains run frequently through the evening — a stress-free option for families who would rather skip holiday traffic. Zoo members not only save 20% on regularly priced tickets but also enjoy the exclusive Member Preview Night on November 15. Families on a budget should also ask about the zoo’s income-assistance discounts, because holiday magic should be for everyone. Tickets and full details at oregonzoo.org/lights.

Please note: most animals are not on view during ZooLights. Still, with the magical meadow light show, interactive displays and festive treats around every corner, Happy City News considers ZooLights the essential family outing of the Portland holiday season.
