Since 1964, Portland Opera has filled the Keller Auditorium with the biggest emotions in music — betrayal, ecstasy and arias that stop the show. Its seasons pair grand classics like Carmen and La Traviata with fresh American works, sung by rising stars and beloved veterans alike.
At its Hampton Opera Center on the east bank, the company cooks up intimate chamber operas and its Resident Artist program trains the next generation of American singers, many of whom return as headliners. The Opera’s “Opera a la Cart” truck carries arias to farmers markets and parks all summer — opera with food truck energy.
Surtitles, pre-show talks and community performances keep the velvet curtain open to everyone. Portland Opera proves the art form isn’t dying; in the Rose City, it’s blooming.
