At historic Camp Withycombe in Clackamas, the Oregon Military Museum tells the story of the citizen-soldier — the neighbors who have answered Oregon’s call from the frontier era to today. Its 32,000-square-foot museum houses everything from a rare 1790s flintlock to helicopters and tanks.
The Hall of Valor honors Oregon’s Medal of Honor recipients, the weapons vault displays one of the finest collections in the West, and the grounds hold a fleet of restored vehicles and a quartermaster store turned exhibit hall. The adjacent 1911 field artillery barn adds pioneer-era charm.
Admission is free, the volunteers are storytellers, and the message is gratitude. It’s one of the metro area’s most impressive — and most under-visited — museums.
