‘As You Wish’: The Princess Bride in Concert with the Oregon Symphony, October 17–18

Film concerts are pure magic: a beloved movie on the big screen, every note of its score performed live by a full symphony orchestra. This October, the Oregon Symphony brings that magic to downtown Portland with The Princess Bride in Concert — a live-to-picture celebration of the 40th anniversary of Rob Reiner’s timeless adventure.

Performances are Saturday, October 17 and Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in downtown Portland. Directed by Reiner, The Princess Bride is the story of fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, and miracles — narrated by the great Peter Falk as a grandfather reading to his grandson, following the beautiful Buttercup and her one true love, Westley, a farmhand turned pirate.

Mark Knopfler’s score, live

The heart of the evening is the music. Mark Knopfler’s unforgettable score — wistful, swashbuckling, and instantly recognizable — will be performed live in sync with the film by the full Oregon Symphony. Hearing the orchestra swell through the Fire Swamp chase or the wedding march is the kind of experience no home theater can reproduce. As the Symphony puts it: missing this cinematic concert would be inconceivable.

A perfect Portland night out

The “Schnitz” — with its iconic Portland sign glowing over Broadway — is one of the city’s most storied venues, and film concerts are among its most joyful events: audiences laugh, cheer, and quote along. Whether you grew up saying “As you wish” or are meeting Westley and Buttercup for the first time, this is a rare chance to experience a classic the way it deserves: big screen, big sound, live.
