World Premiere: ‘Working for the Macbeths’ at the Bitz Opera Factory in February

Shakespeare gets a backstage pass. Pittsburgh Opera will present the world premiere of Working for the Macbeths — music by Johanny Navarro, libretto by Marcus Yi — at the Bitz Opera Factory in the Strip District on February 27, March 2, 5 and 7, 2027, the company’s sixth world premiere in ten years.

The comic opera follows Florinda, a lady-in-waiting newly hired by Lord and Lady Macbeth, who — despite a certain prophecy from three witches — remains determined to make sure her bosses live happily ever after. It’s a fresh, funny angle on the Bard’s darkest couple, staged in Pittsburgh Opera’s own headquarters theater, where the audience sits close enough to see ambition sweat.

The Bitz Opera Factory is at 2425 Liberty Avenue in the Strip District. Tickets at pittsburghopera.org — world premieres in intimate rooms tend to sell out.
