Storytimes, Songs and Saturday Fun at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh

The best free entertainment in Pittsburgh wears a library card. Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh runs a citywide calendar of children’s storytimes, baby and toddler lapsits, family play days, homework help and reading clubs — anchored by the grand Main Library in Oakland and branches in neighborhoods across the city.

The children’s department at Main (4400 Forbes Avenue) is a destination in itself, with story sessions nearly every day of the week and a summer reading program that keeps Pittsburgh kids turning pages all season. Branch libraries add their own flavor — LEGO clubs, pajama storytimes, bilingual programs and teen hangouts — and it’s all free.

Browse the events calendar at carnegielibrary.org and build a weekly rhythm around your branch. Libraries are Pittsburgh’s original community centers; the storytimes prove it every morning.
