Kids Kingdom: The Children’s Zoo Inside the Pittsburgh Zoo

Before ‘children’s zoos’ were everywhere, Pittsburgh built one of the first — and Kids Kingdom at the Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium is still where the youngest animal lovers start. This dedicated children’s area brings kids nose-to-nose with friendly farm animals, playful meerkats and pint-size adventures scaled for small legs.

Little visitors can watch sea lions perform their daily routines, meet goats in the contact yard, and crawl, climb and slide through playground structures between animal stops. The kingdom’s design gets the details right: low viewing windows, shaded paths and plenty of benches for grown-up pit stops.

Kids Kingdom is included with zoo admission at 7370 Baker Street in Highland Park; the area keeps seasonal hours within the Zoo’s daily schedule. Check pittsburghzoo.org before your visit — and plan to stay longer than you think.
