In Point Breeze, behind a quiet gate on Penn Avenue, the Gilded Age never quite left. The Frick Pittsburgh preserves Clayton, Henry Clay Frick’s meticulously restored mansion — one of America’s most intact Victorian homes — alongside the Frick Art Museum, the Car and Carriage Museum and five acres of gardens that are free to wander.
Clayton’s tours are the centerpiece: room after room of original furnishings, from the family’s breakfast room to Frick’s private study, interpreted through the lives of the family and the staff who ran the house. The Car and Carriage Museum shifts gears through Pittsburgh transportation history, from sleighs and carriages to a 1914 Rolls-Royce and the Fricks’ own automobiles.
The Frick Pittsburgh is at 7227 Reynolds Street in Point Breeze. Grounds and the Frick Art Museum are free; Clayton tours are ticketed at thefrickpittsburgh.org.
