Long before Phoenix had a name, the Hohokam people built a city here — and at the S’edav Va’aki Museum (formerly Pueblo Grande), families can walk its actual ruins: a monumental platform mound, a ballcourt and canal paths dug a thousand years ago.
The museum makes deep history kid-friendly with hands-on exhibits, a children’s activity area, demonstration gardens of desert crops and trails where young archaeologists piece together how a desert civilization thrived.
Minutes from the airport yet a world away, it’s the most meaningful history walk in the city: Phoenix’s first neighborhood, still teaching.
