A Spookie Safari Awaits: Spot the Zoo’s Striped Stars This Halloween

Phoenix families have a delightfully wild reason to visit the Zoo this October. The Phoenix Zoo is turning Halloween season into a playful animal adventure with its Spookie Stripes Safari, running September 1 through October 31, 2026 — and it is included with general admission or membership.

The challenge is simple and irresistible: grab your little explorers and set out to spot the Zoo’s striped animals. From big cats with bold patterns to striped reptiles and beyond, kids become detectives as they hunt for nature’s most stylish markings. Along the way, they collect fun facts about what makes each animal’s unique pattern so special — a sneaky way to learn real wildlife science while having a blast.

As one of the largest non-profit zoos in the United States, the Phoenix Zoo cares for more than 3,000 animals representing nearly 400 species, including many threatened and endangered ones. A visit doubles as a gentle lesson in conservation — and October’s golden desert light makes the trails especially beautiful for photos.

Pair the safari with the Zoo’s daily activities and you have a full day of happy, screen-free family time. Costumes are welcome, curiosity is guaranteed, and every striped sighting earns a little victory lap.
