New York families are about to see the world in a whole new light. On November 16, the American Museum of Natural History opens The Nature of Color, an interactive exhibition for all ages that explores how color shapes our lives and the natural world. Museum members get a head start during Member Preview Days, November 13 to 15.
The exhibition unfolds as a walk through color itself. In the white room, visitors experiment with light and discover what colors they can create. The yellow room explores how colors affect our mood, perceptions and even our behavior, while the green room reveals why some animals wear eye-catching colors and others blend into the background. The red room traces how red has signaled status, power and celebration across human history, and the blue room dives into the paints, pigments and dyes people have used to color everything from clothing and cars to paintings and pyramids.
It is the kind of exhibition kids explore with their hands and grown-ups leave thinking about ā part science lab, part art lesson, all wonder. The Nature of Color is on view on Floor 3 of the museum, at 200 Central Park West, through May 2, 2027, and can be added to any museum ticket during checkout.
