New York in 5 Days: The Complete Itinerary

Five days is the complete New York: every essential borough moment, with a full day across the East River in Brooklyn — the city’s most exciting borough right now.

Day 1 — Midtown icons

Morning: Top of the Rock, Grand Central, 5th Avenue. Afternoon: MoMA, Times Square. Evening: Broadway show.

Day 2 — Downtown and Brooklyn Bridge

Morning: Statue of Liberty ferry + Financial District. Afternoon: 9/11 Memorial, walk the Brooklyn Bridge to DUMBO. Evening: Dinner in DUMBO.

Day 3 — Central Park and Museum Mile

Morning: Central Park loop. Afternoon: The Met (closed Wednesdays). Evening: Upper East Side dinner.

Day 4 — High Line, Chelsea & the Village

Morning: High Line from Hudson Yards. Lunch: food halls in Chelsea. Afternoon: Whitney Museum + Greenwich Village. Evening: Village dinner, jazz club.

Day 5 — Brooklyn

Morning (10:00 AM – 1:00 PM): Take the L train to Bedford Avenue and explore Williamsburg: vintage shops, weekend flea markets, and the waterfront at Domino Park with the Manhattan skyline across the river.
Lunch (1:00 – 2:30 PM): Williamsburg’s food scene — from outdoor food markets (Saturdays, April–late October) to the neighborhood’s famous pizza and bagel spots.
Afternoon (2:30 – 5:30 PM): Subway or ferry to Prospect Park (Brooklyn’s answer to Central Park, designed by the same architects) and the Brooklyn Museum next door — world-class and far less crowded than Manhattan’s big museums (open Wed–Sun, 11 AM–6 PM; closed Mon & Tue).
Evening: Farewell dinner back in Manhattan — or stay in Brooklyn: the rooftop bars of Williamsburg have the best skyline views in the city.

Getting around: the L to Williamsburg, the 2/3 to Grand Army Plaza for the museum. The NYC Ferry ($4.50 per ride; $5.00 from October 19, 2026 — more than the $3.00 subway fare) between Williamsburg and Manhattan is a ride in itself. Photo: Demetri Andriani / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0).
