There is a delightful new reason to plan a visit to the Bronx Zoo: a fluffy little snow leopard cub has just made her public debut, and she is already winning hearts.
The female cub was born on May 31, 2026, to parents Dari and Moutig, the Wildlife Conservation Society announced on September 30. After passing all her physical exams and routine vaccinations with flying colors, the cub is now exploring the zoo’s Himalayan Highlands habitat — and visitors may spot her pouncing, playing, and practicing her first climbs.
Her arrival brings the total number of snow leopards at the Bronx Zoo to eight. Snow leopards are among the most elusive cats on the planet, native to the high mountain ranges of Central Asia, and are listed as a species threatened with extinction.
The Bronx Zoo’s snow leopard family plays an important role in the global effort to protect these magnificent animals, and WCS scientists support snow leopard conservation across their wild range. Seeing the new cub is also a wonderful chance for families to talk about wildlife and conservation with their little ones.
Fall is a lovely season to explore the zoo’s 265 acres, from tiger forests to penguin colonies. Come say hello to the newest member of the snow leopard family — she is waiting in the Himalayan Highlands!
