Three days adds the green and cultural heart: Central Park and Museum Mile. It’s the perfect balance of icons, history, and art.
Day 1 — Midtown icons
Morning: Top of the Rock, Grand Central, 5th Avenue. Afternoon: MoMA, Times Square. Evening: Broadway show.
Day 2 — Downtown and Brooklyn Bridge
Morning: Statue of Liberty ferry (first departure) + Financial District. Afternoon: 9/11 Memorial, walk the Brooklyn Bridge to DUMBO. Evening: Dinner in DUMBO.
Day 3 — Central Park and Museum Mile
Morning (9:00 AM – 1:00 PM): Enter Central Park at Columbus Circle and walk the loop east: the Mall, Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Bow Bridge, and the Ramble. Two hours covers the highlights on foot; rent a bike at the southeast corner to see more.
Lunch (1:00 – 2:30 PM): Exit at 5th Avenue and 79th Street — museum-area cafés or a quick slice nearby.
Afternoon (2:30 – 5:30 PM): The Metropolitan Museum of Art (open 10 AM–5 PM Sunday–Tuesday and Thursday, until 9 PM Friday–Saturday; closed Wednesdays — plan around it). The Egyptian wing and the rooftop garden are unmissable — note the roof garden closes October 19, 2026 for a multi-year renovation. Two to three hours is the sweet spot; the Met could swallow a whole day.
Evening: Walk down Museum Mile past the Guggenheim‘s spiral facade (photo stop), then dinner on the Upper East Side — quieter and more local than Midtown.
Getting around: subway 4/5/6 to 86th St for the Met; the M1–M4 buses run down 5th Avenue past all the museums. Photo: Vallue / Wikimedia Commons (CC BY-SA 4.0).
