One of the Upper East Side’s most beloved cultural gems is back and more beautiful than ever. Following a full summer restoration, Neue Galerie New York reopened its doors on October 1, 2026, welcoming visitors back to its stunning Beaux-Arts mansion on Fifth Avenue.
The museum, devoted to Austrian and German art of the early twentieth century, returns with everything New Yorkers love about it: world-class galleries, the beloved Café Sabarsky with its Viennese charm, the Book Store and the Design Shop — all refreshed and ready for the fall season.
A visit to the Neue Galerie is always a journey into the golden age of Vienna, from Gustav Klimt’s glittering Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I to the museum’s remarkable collection of decorative arts, furniture and masterworks of the Wiener Werkstätte. The reopening makes October the perfect moment to rediscover this jewel of Museum Mile, whether it is your first visit or your fiftieth.
If you have not strolled through its elegant rooms lately, put it on your list: the Neue Galerie is open again, and New York’s art scene is brighter for it.
