Families Celebrate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival at Louisiana Children’s Museum Today

Families in New Orleans have a joyful cultural celebration to enjoy today, Saturday, October 24, as the Louisiana Children’s Museum hosts a Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in City Park. The program is presented by the Xavier University of Louisiana Chinese Language Program, which invites children and their grownups to discover one of China’s most beloved traditions through play, creativity and curiosity.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is a harvest celebration centred on the full moon, family togetherness and gratitude. At the museum, families can learn about its traditions and customs in a fun, hands-on way designed for young learners. Children can create their own Mid-Autumn bookmark decorated with stamps and stickers, a cheerful keepsake to take home and a gentle introduction to a festival celebrated by families around the world.

A special culture booth adds another adventure, exploring Taiwan through its landmarks, traditions and everyday culture. It is a wonderful chance for children to look beyond their own neighbourhood, ask questions, and see how other families celebrate, eat, learn and gather.

The Louisiana Children’s Museum, at 15 Henry Thomas Drive in City Park, is New Orleans’ playful hands-on museum for children, and this festival fits its mission perfectly: connecting children with the world around them through exploration and conversation. Arrive early, bring the whole family, and make a full City Park day of it under the oaks.
