Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Fills Holy Trinity Cathedral with Strings in “The Protecting Veil”

New Orleans is about to hear one of the most beautiful sounds in all of classical music inside one of its most breathtaking spaces. On Wednesday, October 28, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra brings “The Protecting Veil” to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, a strings-only evening designed to move listeners between the spiritual, the natural, and the deeply personal.

The program opens with John Tavener’s The Protecting Veil, a work of striking spiritual depth written for solo cello and string orchestra, performed by cellist Jeanne Jaubert with the LPO strings under conductor Matthew Kraemer. After intermission, the evening continues with Dawn Avery’s Grandmother Moon and Valerie Coleman’s Tracing Visions, completing a program that celebrates voices across generations of composers.

The setting makes the night even more special: the cathedral’s soaring Byzantine interior, with its painted dome and icon-adorned sanctuary, offers acoustics and atmosphere that few concert halls can match. The concert runs about two hours including intermission, making it a perfect evening plan for music lovers and the simply curious alike. Tickets are available through the LPO website, so reserve your seats and let an evening of luminous strings carry you away.
