Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto Returns to Lead the Louisiana Philharmonic in Shostakovich’s Fifth

A beloved musical homecoming is coming to the Orpheum Theater. On Thursday, October 22, 2026 at 7:30 PM, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes back Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto to the podium for “Prieto Returns: Shostakovich Symphony No. 5,” a powerful evening of 20th-century orchestral masterworks.

The program opens with Silvestre Revueltas’s vibrant Suite from Redes, alive with rhythmic energy and cinematic color, followed by Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 2 — a work of lyricism and sharp-edged brilliance featuring guest violin soloist Aubree Oliverson. After intermission, Shostakovich’s sweeping Symphony No. 5 brings the night to a monumental close under Prieto’s baton.

Doors open at 6:00 PM, and concertgoers can deepen their experience with a free pre-concert talk from 6:30 to 7:00 PM. The performance runs approximately 90 minutes including intermission at the historic Orpheum Theater, 129 Roosevelt Way, New Orleans.

Prieto, one of the most celebrated conductors of his generation and a longtime friend of the LPO, returns to celebrate the orchestra’s artistry in a program that promises both brilliance and emotional depth — a true highlight of the fall season for music lovers across the Crescent City.
