Where to Eat

New Orleans Crowned No. 1 Food Destination in the U.S. by Yelp and Lyft

New Orleans just took home the tastiest title in the country: Yelp and Lyft named the Crescent City the No. 1 Food Destination in the U.S. for 2026 in their joint Top 20 Foodie Cities ranking, announced on September 1, 2026. New Orleans & Company now lists the honor among the city’s official 2026 accolades.

Unlike traditional rankings built on star ratings alone, this one is powered by real dining behavior: Yelp data on restaurant searches, page views, ratings, saves and photo uploads, paired with actual Lyft rideshare destinations showing where diners really went to eat. Where America goes to dine out was the question – and the answer was New Orleans.

The details are delicious: seafood was New Orleans’ second-most-searched local cuisine on Yelp, and top destinations for Lyft riders in the city included legendary dining rooms like Commander’s Palace and the Michelin-starred Cochon. The Crescent City outpaced Charleston (No. 2) and San Diego (No. 3). And in a fun twist, breakfast and brunch were the most-searched restaurant categories in every Foodie City – a perfect excuse for a long, lazy NOLA brunch.

Ready to taste why? From gumbo and crawfish étouffée to fine-dining temples, New Orleans keeps proving that dining out here is a way of life. Happy City News raises a fork to America’s No. 1 food city.
