Homeschool Day Brings Military History to Life at the Tennessee State Museum on November 17

Nashville homeschool families get a field trip worth circling on the calendar. The Tennessee State Museum hosts its next Homeschool Day on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, a free morning of fun and historical activities built around a Military History theme, with gallery experiences and costumed interpreters bringing Tennessee’s past to life.

Homeschool Days are one of the museum’s happiest traditions: a series designed for the unique needs and rhythm of homeschool students and their families. The day starts at 10 a.m. with a welcome and orientation in the museum’s spacious Grand Hall, and educator-led programs rotate every half hour from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., so families can drop into the sessions that fit their crew. No registration is required.

Between programs, participants of all ages can enjoy living history presentations, hands-on learning activities and crafts in the Children’s Gallery. It is the museum at its most welcoming: real artifacts, real stories and educators who love questions, all at a pace that works for a five-year-old and a teenager on the same morning.

Best of all, the Tennessee State Museum is always free. The museum stands at 1000 Rosa L. Parks Boulevard, next to Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park and the Nashville Farmers’ Market, which makes it easy to turn Homeschool Day into a full downtown family outing. Arrive a little early, grab a spot in the Grand Hall, and let Tennessee history do the teaching.
