Hennepin County Library With Kids: Storytimes, Play Spaces and Wonder

Ask Minneapolis parents for their rainy-day headquarters and they’ll point to the library — all 41 branches of Hennepin County Library, each with a children’s area designed like an invitation. Baby and toddler storytimes pack the mornings with songs and first friendships (for kids and parents alike).

The flagship Minneapolis Central Library downtown adds a soaring atrium and teen tech labs; neighborhood branches layer in play-and-learn spaces, LEGO clubs, homework help, summer reading adventures and author visits that fill the children’s calendar year-round. Everything is free with a card that every kid in the county can hold.

In a city that loves its winters indoors, the library is the warmest public living room — and the children’s section is its coziest corner.
